Goal: The goal of this game is to win by collecting the most points, or to collect as many points as possible.
Step # 1: (prep) Print and laminate all the cards. Place them all face down on a table or upon a whiteboard in a grid-like fashion. Print and laminate the cue cards (you and/or the students may use this a reference for forming questions/answers when playing the bomb game.
Step # 2: (prep) Choose whether to organize students into teams or allow them to play without forming teams. Have them sit around a table or in front of a whiteboard.
Step # 3: (explaining the game) Explain to the students that they may earn random amounts of points, swap/change points, get a bomb and lose all their points, or become invincible to the bomb card, depending on the card they pick up. Additionally, in this Valentine's Day variation students may complete the take of 'naming three items' located in the upper right corner to earn an additional point.
Step # 4: (starting/playing the game)
Version # 1: The player to the teacher’s left may start by picking up a card. The student should make a sentence with the vocabulary word given on the card (the teacher may make use one of the cue cards/cue cards provided in order to aid the students in making sentences), or complete another task regarding the target language/vocabulary word according to the teacher's discretion. That student may then earn the reward outlined on the card. If they complete the 'name three items' task given in the upper right corner they may earn an additional point; if they cannot they may still keep the card and reward outlined on the card without an additional point. If they are unable to complete the target language task given by the teacher they must return the card without receiving the point or benefit of the card (if it is a bomb card they will lose all their points regardless). The teacher may end the game when a bomb card is drawn or reshuffle the cards and continue the game without the student or team who got the bomb card (or with that/student team starting over again at zero).
Version # 2: (for lower-level students) the students and teacher may ignore the additional task given in the upper right corner.
