ESL Conversation Lesson: Strike It Rich And My Video Trying The Lottery In Korea

As this ESL conversation lesson is on striking it rich around the world I headed to the local convenience store and picked up some scratch-off lottery tickets in the video above to try out my luck. Was luck on my side? Feel free to show this video to your ESL students as a warm-up. (sorry about my pronunciation of geocaching)

If you are just looking to download the free ESL conversation pdf just scroll past the lesson descriptions and click the image to get the free ESL conversation lesson pdf, and if you find it useful I've made a book format as well which includes 24 lessons.

Our lesson format includes imagery, table topic, hypothetical table topic, guided conversation questions, two conversational activities, and a homework project.

Some ESL conversation questions in the lesson include:

Have you ever dreamed of striking it rich? How did you dream of accomplishing it? What's the best way to make good money in your home country? How about while traveling? Which of the activities on the previous page stands out the most to you? Why so? Which of the activities on the previous do you think are immoral? Why so? What are some activities or hobbies in your home country that can make money? If you could learn any skill for making money, what skill would you choose and why? Have you ever thought of flipping properties? What's a good area or market for flipping?

Lesson topics

trophy hunting: the activity of hunting and killing animals in order to display part or all of their bodies as trophies

African trophy hunting is considered to be one of the more immoral practices that occur around the world.

rockhounding: the activity of searching for and collecting rocks, fossils, or minerals

I was out rockhounding in the mountains and struck it rich.

professional gambling: a practice where a person makes a living from gambling and spends most of his time at the casinos

I'm headed to Las Vegas to begin my profession in professional gambling.

flipping (properties): buy and sell (something, especially real estate or shares) quickly to make a profit

I moved to Florida to flip houses because the market has been flooded with houses for years and the house prices are so cheap.

geocaching: the recreational activity of hunting for and finding hidden objects or small treasures by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website

There are over 20 types of geocaching. Some of them can be quite lucrative.
